Jason Myles Clark, a Southeast Queens resident is running for Council in District 27. Jason is engaged and well-vested in the community. He exhibits genuine interest in what's important to residents. We often find him walking through different areas, knocking on doors, asking residents what they'reconcerned about and then taking notes.
Jason is also very active within the community and can be found at any number of events and meetings. He's the one with the quick smile who will always take a moment to acknowledge you. He radiates warmth and a genuine spirit. Polished, but humble and always accessible. He and Al Kanu share many positive qualities. Jason is also an excellent listener and problem solver. Jason can often be found at the end of an event or meeting, he's the one helping to clean up whether it was his event or not.
A man with a solid background and important experience, he is easily able to connect with residents of all ages, backgrounds and concerns. With an excellent staff behind and with him, Jason has time and time again proven that he and his staff are very responsive and pleasant. He also has experience working for the District Attorney's Office, "Jason has fought for justice as President of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association. The MBBA is the largest organization of predominantly Black lawyers in New York, and under his leadership, the MBBA fought for criminal justice reform. Jason led the fight against police brutality by fighting to repeal Civil Rights Law 50-a, which shielded police disciplinary records from the public. The MBBA also championed a fairer and more equitable criminal justice system that focuses on eliminating poverty – not criminalizing it. Because of his knack for getting the job done, Jason was awarded the New York Law Journal’s Prestigious “Distinguished Leaders Award,” and recognized by City & State Magazine as one of the most impactful lawyers in New York in 2020." We're not only electing an official for our Community, we're electing a Role Model for the next generation and a Problem Solver for older residents. Southeast Queens is rich with Homeowners, College Graduates, Employed boys/girls, men/women, Business Owners and the like and most are long standing residents who will stay and/or pass on their wealth to family members. We, like any other communities, have challenges in education, legalities and economic growth, stability and in maintaining control of our community. Jason also worked in the District Attorney's Office and under the leadership of Letitia James, former Public Advocate for the City Of New York and present District Attorney. Jason comes with well rounded experience and inside knowledge needed for our community.
In addition to the general needs of our Community, we're also concerned about real support for the Arts and Small Businesses, along with the development of the legislation and business opportunities concerning Cannibis. Underserved Communities are being promised equity; what will that look like and will crime and education; after-school/Saturday program factor into decisions and funding? There are a lot of questions and this is our opportunity to ask them - before the Election and not after.
On June 22nd, there will be approximately 12 candidates to choose from and we're also wondering why so many are running at the same time? But the real question is - how will each of us decide as each Candidate has their strengths and positive attributes. For far too long, independent Creative Entrepreneurs, home-based, online and mobile businesses have been largely left out, save a few events here and there. There are also a lot of Social Justice/Social Change type Organizations in our District. We're looking for more expansive and permanent resources; a standing and active Committee to meet the needs of these individuals and groups along with ongoing Workshops for Business Management and Grant Writing.
Regardless of who you vote for on June 22nd, we hope that you will consider which Candidate is best able to meet the majority of Community Concerns in a timely and helpful manner. Embedded in our "new normal" cannot be "politics as usuall". We encourage everyone to do their own research (ask Alexa, Google and your neighbors), call their offices, go to their events, sit in on their Meetings and Debates and decide based on the concerns and needs of all residents.
