District 27 Council Candidates

District 27 neighbors -  The Election has passed and with such a large list of Candidates admissions that New Rank Choice Voting- it will be interesting to see who wins and who comes in second and third. We should learn the results in July.

Most of the candidates and rightfully so, are focused on housing (mortgages and zoning), education, unemployment, seniors and infrastructure. These issues are of the utmost concern. Along with the above focal areas, we also concerned with Arts, Culture and Entertainment- rebuilding our Reputation, Resources and Economics.

Jamaica or Southeast Queens, was once a destination place, know for Fashion and Legends and those famous houses still stand, but us, as a regular Tourist Attraction where our Talent can also Perform/Work here- does not. Creative Energy and Happenings is Productive, Infectious and brings Dollars and Opportunity.Creative Participation breeds intelligence, problem solving skills, self-confidence, direction, the ability to complete a project, think abstractly, maintain self-control- while lessening the effects of peer pressure, depression and loneliness.

Typically, Creatives are too busy to be bullies, do not have a tendency to fight or wonder the streets.Unfortunately, our neighborhoods don’t often have many Creative options in or out of school. The typical standard programs are great, but not enough.

Southeast Queens is filled with All kinds of Talent and it is our responsibility to offer more options while realizing that not all parents or guardians can pay for Cooking, Seeing, Soap Making, Stained Glass or Jewelry Making classes, etc. We as residents whether our children are grown up already or not, should still care and still should make our voices heard on Arts and Culture. It wasn’t until we held Pop-Up Shops, Poetry Events then held our first Film Festival l did I realize how many Makers/Designers/Chefs/Soap makers, Poets, Filmmakers and Series Producers we have here - locally.

We are so economically viable and our vision is that whomever wins will address all of the other important issues, but also appoint a staff member to make time for Creativity and Tourism. To accomplish this, we're asking that everyone to keep this Economically Sound - Creatively based need at the forefront as well.  Creativity is our, Past, should be more active in our Present and needs to be a concern for the Future. https://qns.com/.../2021-elections-whos-running-for-city.../
