Poetry Showcase This Thursday

We're excited; we've missed hosting Poetry Showcases, Open Mic Nights and Slams.  We had quite a few wonderful Events and invitations to preform at well known Venues such as Nassau Coliseum.  

On Thursday, June 17th, Space 224 is donating the Venue for a Free Community Showcase - Black Men Speak - in honor of Father's Day and the world opening back up. 

My love affair with Poetry began early in elementary school when my mother purchased a Poetry Book for me at a school book fair.  "Poems by Khalil", a young poetess; and I still have that book.  I remember that she autographed it for me and that exchange made such a huge impression on my life and let me know that I too could write poetry.

And I did.  From then on I wrote and wrote.  Never published, never performed.  But once we had the Art Studio where we held live performances - Poetry came back into my life in the form of Open Mic Nights, Showcases, Slams and profound love.  I met so many local Poets and Authors and am always amazed by the clever words, the vulnerability, eloquence and innate skill of story-telling.  The Passion, the Prose, The Wisdom, The Shared Experiences - are all captivating. 

The various generations and background hitting the stage and applauding each other.  When we speak of Respect, Unity and Mutual Support - Poetry always comes to mind.  In the dark room there is quiet, anticipation, exceptional listening skills and the desire to share and become one. And no one does it like the Males.  There is something so extraordinarily special watching and listening to males open up and express their deepest thoughts so openly and without posture.  Fearless in being judged, open, ready, eloquent and honest.  

If you can attend, I strongly suggest that you do.  If you can't stay tuned for the next one in a few months.  The next one will definitely feature published Poets and well as new ones.  Poets are the Record Keepers, Voice, Soul and Heart of their times.  They speak to our Spirits, sub and super consciousness and with our attentiveness and applause we speak back.
